Board & Committees

A  township supervisor serves on a board that oversees the running of a township. As part of the community’s government, these individuals are responsible for setting and enacting policies and resolutions, levying taxes and setting budgets. They are elected to their posts and are therefore viewed as community leaders.

The Saville  Board of Supervisors is made up of 3 members, serving 6-year terms and each must reside in Saville Township.

The Board of Supervisors formulate township policies and supervise their enactment. They participate in the development and approval of the township budget as well as the hiring of municipal employees. As a member of the township board, they cast their vote on community issues. They also respond to complaints of township residents and moderate township meetings. Some township supervisors are also employed directly by the township as laborers or  take on the administrative duties of a secretary or treasurer.

They are charged with the general governance of the township and the execution of legislative, executive and administrative powers to ensure sound fiscal management and to secure the health, safety and welfare of the citizens of the township.

They have the responsibility for maintenance of township-owned equipment and facilities.

They employ people as may be necessary for the general conduct of the business of the township and provide for the compensation, organization and supervision of the people employed..

They authorize attendance at conferences, institutes, schools and conventions.

They perform duties and exercise powers as may be imposed or conferred by law or the rules and regulations of any agency of the Commonwealth.

The Saville Planning Committee is an advisory body appointed by the Board of Supervisors that is responsible for directing the short and long range growth of the township through maintenance and implementation of the county’s general plan, rules and regulations. The planning committee is made up of 3 members. Most planning committee members are professional who are familiar with land use, traffic, engineering, elected office experience or development. But some planning committee members are lay people without any previous land use experience. All committee members are charged with acting in public interest but serve at the pleasure of the Board of Supervisors
